With online registration launching Dec. 1, ConocoPhillips expects to break another record in 2009 with a field limit of 10,000 participants for the upcoming ConocoPhillips Rodeo Run set for Feb. 28.

In its 22 years as Houston’s only point-to-point 10K and 5K fun run/walk, the event has raised more than $2 million in scholarship funds for Texas youth. Every year, participants lead the Houston Live Stock Show and Rodeo parade past thousands of cheering spectators in downtown Houston to kick off the city’s celebration of its western heritage.

“The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is a wonderful Houston tradition and we are proud to be a part of this celebration,” said ConocoPhillips Rodeo Run registration director Marshall Cohen. “We hope to increase participation in the race to raise a record amount of scholarship funds this year for youth scholarships.”

Each year ConocoPhillips has donated race registration entry fees to the Educational Fund and in 2008, the event raised $220,000 for scholarships. In its 22 year history, the event has awarded to 172 scholarships.

Rewards for participants include the opportunity to win thousands of dollars worth of giveaways, including Continental Airlines tickets.

Online registration continues until Feb. 22 at www.ConocoPhillipsRodeoRun.com. Participants can also register and pick-up their packets in person Feb. 7 at the Kroger Signature Store located at 9919 Westheimer from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. or at registration and packet pick-up at Luke’s Locker, 1953 West Gray, beginning Feb. 25 through Feb. 27, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The race begins at 9:40 a.m. at the intersection of Texas Ave. and Smith St. and finishes with a post race party at Minute Maid Park.
