Sugar Creek Baptist Church is hosting a Christmas musical designed to shine the spotlight on the true meaning of the holiday, as the church invites the community to a production of “Imagine Christmas.”

The free musical will include three shows on Saturday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 14 at 3:30 and 7 p.m. in the church’s worship center, located at 13333 Southwest Freeway in Sugar Land.

Coordinated by the SCBC Worship and Creative Arts Ministry, the musical will feature what coordinators are describing as “the most innovative and unique Christmas musical ever performed in the area.”

Originally written and performed by the Willow Creek Community Church of Chicago, the Christmas musical will be performed locally with a few minor adjustments, including original music selections, Tom Mosley, interim music and worship pastor said of the production.

“A hundred-voice choir, 30-piece orchestra, dancers and actors will deliver the Christmas Story in a fresh and relevant manner that will be enjoyed by all ages,” Mosley said.

The holiday musical will include performances by the Trans Siberian orchestra, and a choral arrangement of Josh Groban’s "The First Noel,” featuring vocal performances by Lisa Pierre and Julio Arriola, winner of the 2007 Sugar Land Superstar talent competition.

Musical goers will be treated to an evening filled with fast-paced, captivating, visual performances, including high-energy dance numbers by “Hibernia” and acrobatic and ariel performances by members of Aerial Experience Presentations of Los Angeles.

“It is our joy to give to the wonderful people in the Sugar Land region the gift of Imagine Christmas. It is a contemporary view of the birth and meaning of Jesus Christ. This breathtaking presentation by aerialists, choir, orchestra, dance and drama teams will set the stage of the Christmas season for everyone who comes,” Sugar Creek Pastor Mark Hartman said of the event.

“Our entire country needs an infusion of hope and peace in these days. Nothing provides that better than a fresh view of our God,” Hartman said.
