‘Creative Thinking’ at UH-CL

Findings new ways to encourage creative thinking and abilities in students can make the educational experience more positive for gifted and talented students. To help educators do this the University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Center for Educational Programs offers “The Power of Creative Thinking,” a one-day seminar on Dec. 6.

This workshop will be held 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. in UH-Clear Lake’s Arbor Building, 2700 Bay Area Blvd. Attendees can earn six clock hours of credit toward training hours for teachers of gifted students.

“The Power of Creative Thinking” costs $40 for Southeast Co-op members and $60 for non-members. For more information or to register, call 281-283-3530 or e-mail youngj@uhcl.edu.

Make the holidays special for kids, seniors in need

University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Office of Intercultural and International Student Services announces their annual Wish Tree Program. In partnership with the Salvation Army, the program provides gifts to local children and seniors who will not otherwise receive presents this holiday season.

Students, alumni, faculty, staff and community friends are encouraged to take part in the Wish Tree Program. All are asked to stop by the Wish Tree, located in the international student services office of the Student Services and Classroom Building, and find a wish to fulfill. Once a participant tag is pulled, gifts must be returned by Dec. 3. For more information about the program, call 281-283-2575 or e-mail IISS@uhcl.edu.

JSC History Collection at UH-Clear Lake

In February 2001, University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Alfred R. Neumann Library became the official home for the NASA Johnson Space Center History Collection. This collection focuses on eight areas: Apollo, Skylab, Apollo Soyuz Test Project, space shuttle, space station, oral history, general reference and Johnson Space Center.

Researchers can access two electronic databases to search the contents of the JSC History Collection. Stated guidelines must be adhered to in order to access the collection.

‘The Nutcracker’ performed at UH-Clear Lake

Bay Area Houston Ballet & Theatre will offer a live performance of the holiday favorite, “The Nutcracker,” in UH-Clear Lake’s Bayou Theater, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston.

Four matinees of this classic ballet will be held Dec. 6, 7, 13 and 14 with each performance beginning at 2 p.m. The four evening performances will be held Dec. 5, 6, 12 and 13 at 7:30 p.m.
