Kingwood Swimmers remain undefeated on season

Kingwood High School’s swimming and diving team continued its undefeated season after adding two more wins in dual meets. The Mustangs topped Klein Collins Nov. 6 and perennial rival Katy Taylor Nov. 13.

At both meets, Kingwood won all the girls’ and boys’ relays. Jamie Friderichs, Jillian Vitarius, Cami Luhrs and Kathryn Hartwig set a freshman record in the 200-yard medley relay against Katy Taylor. Later in the same meet, Friderichs, Vitarius and Luhrs were joined by Rachael Lu to set another freshman record in the 400-yard freestyle – beating the previous mark by 4 seconds.

In the individual events, the boys standouts - winning events at both the dual meets - were seniors Austin Wilson and Evan Dalton along with juniors Steve Ciliske and Ryan Glander. Against Klein Collins, Wilson won the 200- and 500-yard freestyle; Ciliske, the 100-yard butterfly; Dalton, the 100-yard breaststroke; and Glander, the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard backstroke.

Continuing their winning ways against Katy Taylor were Wilson, 100- and 200-yard freestyle; Ciliske, 500-yard freestyle; Glander 100-yard butterfly; and Dalton, 100-yard breaststroke.

The Kingwood girls were equally strong, placing first in many individual events at both meets. Sophomore Danielle Meara and seniors Kim Summers and Dannye Osburn had a great meet against Klein Collins - each winning two events.

Meara won the 200 IM and the 100 breaststroke, while Summers took first in the 200 and 500 freestyle races and Osburn won the 50 free and the 100 butterfly. Michelle Gean and Vitarius also won events: the 100 free and 100 backstroke, respectively.
