San Jacinto County ESD approves budget

The San Jacinto County Emergency Services District (ESD) board approved a $1.1 million budget at their November 17 meeting. The board also voted to renew the contract with Legacy EMS.
“The contract is for one year with an option for a one year extension,” said ESD board Secretary and Treasurer Larry Godfrey. Godfrey also stated that the ESD board is currently looking for land to build a new 9-1-1 facility.
“We’re looking in the Shepherd area,” said Godfrey. Godfrey went on to say that the ESD is looking for 1-3 acres of land.
The ESD board also heard a presentation regarding Coldspring’s Insurance Service Office (ISO) rating. A community’s ISO rating is a risk assessment that helps determine the deductibles for insurance policies.
One of the main factors used to determine a community’s ISO rating is the fire department. According to Godfrey the main obstacle to increasing Coldspring’s ISO rating is the water supply.
“It’s the quantity [of water],” said Godfrey. Godfrey stated that within the next few months a representative from the Texas Department of Insurance will be coming to Coldspring to conduct an inspection, and discuss what the Coldspring VFD can do to help lower the city’s ISO rating.
