TAMPA (Nov. 20, 2008) – DeBartolo Sports University announces Cody Green, quarterback for Dayton High School of Dayton, Texas, has been selected as one of the top 100 athletes identified for the 2008 “Joe Montana High School Quarterback of the Year Award.” The award will be presented to the nation’s best high school quarterback and will be chosen by Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana and Steve Clarkson, quarterback expert and President of DeBartolo Sports University.
Montana is recognized by many experts as the greatest NFL quarterback of all-time and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2000. Under the leadership of former San Francisco 49ers owner and DeBartolo Sports University founder Edward J. DeBartolo Jr., Montana led the 49ers to four Super Bowl championships in 1982, 1985, 1989 and 1990. This is the second annual “Joe Montana Quarterback of the Year Award” presented by DeBartolo Sport University. Mater Dei High School (Santa Ana, Calif.) quarterback and No. 1 high school prospect Matt Barkley was the inaugural winner of the award. He has committed to the University of Southern California.
“The award created by DeBartolo Sports University in 2007 was a terrific opportunity to meet and work with so many talented athletes,” Montana said. “Once again, I look forward to mentoring these young quarterbacks through this exciting project.”
The quarterbacks will be graded and evaluated through DeBartolo Sports University’s scouting division, which is comprised of former college and NFL coaches. The watch-list of the top 100 quarterbacks will be narrowed down to seven national finalists who will be announced in December 2008.
