Panthers to face celebrity-backed Wildcats
By Michael Sudhalter
Last week, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo and Hollywood actor Will Smith attended a pep rally for the Dallas Lake Highlands football team.
Klein Oak (9-1) doesn’t have that kind of big-name support, but the Panthers (9-1) should be fine when they meet the District 9 champion Wildcats (9-2) at 3 p.m. Saturday at Round Rock ISD Stadium in a regional final playoff game.
“We have good ole high schiik football players that love to play the game, Panthers coach David Smith said. “Our team is a talented team, we have great team chemistry. Their desire to go further in the playoffs is there.”
Smith, who graduated from Richardson High near Dallas, played against the Wildcats in high school. He’s aware of their storied tradition and their current status as an offensive powerhouse.

“This team potentially could surpass what they did,” Smith said. “If we win this game, we’ll have won more games than they did, but we’ll be even with them in how far we’ve progressed in the playoffs.”
