Felts earns special appointment to ATF Task Force

Cleveland Narcotics Detective Scott Felts has been appointed to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) Task Force. He was sworn in Oct. 24 while at the federal courthouse in downtown Houston before U.S. Marshal Ruben Monzon, who administered the oath of office for this special deputation appointment.
This appointment for Felts will allow him to continue working for Cleveland Police Department while fulfilling his duties with the ATF.
“This position arose from years of cooperation between Cleveland Police Department and the ATF,” added Felts. “I had been working with Agent Jauregui on several cases in the Cleveland area for the past several years. Agent Jauregui had graciously taken it upon himself to mentor me in the ways of federal prosecution.”
It was also through Jauregui that Felts learned of the Task Force position.
“I was asked if I would be interested in the position, which is limited to only a few people in the Eastern District of Texas,” said Felts. “I later approached (CPD) Assistant Chief Henry Patterson about this position. He agreed and was very supportive in helping me obtain this appointment.”
Felts said his appointment is beneficial for CPD because it gives the department additional resources and support in fighting crime.
“Not only will Cleveland benefit, but with this appointment, Felts will now be able to cross jurisdictional boundaries to investigate crimes that fall within ATF’s guidelines.
“We have received a great deal of support and cooperation from the ATF. They are swift to offer assistance to our department and have assisted with successful prosecution of numerous bad guys in our area,” said Felts. “For the past several years, I have been very fortunate to work with the agents and investigative analysts of the Beaumont Division. They are some of the best people I have ever met in and out of law enforcement.”
