Fundraiser being held for Channelview student with cancer

Updated: 11.25.08

Jose Lugo is just 15 years old, is involved with high school band and loves to play sports. He also has cancer.

To help with medical expenses, a fundraiser is being held for Lugo at 11 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 30 at Herrera’s Ballroom, 14024 Beaumont Highway. The fundraiser will have food, live music, games for children, a magic show, moonwalks, a raffle and contests.

Lugo showed his community support this past fall in the aftermath of Hurricane Ike. He was one of the many Channelview High School students who helped with a makeshift food bank at the high school, set up by the North Shore Rotary and community members.

His life was brightened a bit when, while at M.D. Anderson Hospital, when recording artist Jon Secada came and visited him during the Latin Grammys. He received an autograph from Secada and was even on television.

All funds raised will benefit Lugo and his family.

To volunteer, or to make donations, call 713-548-6749, 281-914-1975, or 832-472-6085.
