County commissioners court swears in the county’s newest city

The Fort Bend County Commissioners Court on Tuesday swore in the city council members of Weston Lakes, county’s newest city.
Weston Lakes was incorporated into the county on May 10, 2008.
The county judge swore in Mayor Mary Rose Zdunkewicz, Marshal Ron Horowitz, Alderman Clifton H. Aldrich, Alderman Denis Deluca, Alderman Gary L. Owens, Alderman Trent Thomas and Alderman Ted Case II, who was not present.
As County Judge Bob Hebert approved the general elections and special election tallies from the previous week, John Oldham, Fort Bend County elections administrator, said that this year’s election turnout had increased three times since the previous election.
“The elections were fairly routine and they turned out the way we wanted them to,” Oldham said. “But we never could have pulled it off the way we did if we did not have the support of the county and the town.”
Republican U.S. Rep.-elect Pete Olson stopped by the commissioners court to express gratitude and offer support to the county. Olson said the county commissioners court is the heartbeat of the community and he will be as much help to them in Washington as the court is to the community.
“The most important thing you can do as a representative is to represent the people and most particular represent those who are having problems with the Federal Government and other administrations,” he said.
Olson, who beat out Democrat incumbent Nick Lampson, will begin serving the people of TX-22, on Jan. 5. Rep. Olson will also have an office in the city of Sugar Land.
Rep. Olson is excited about his term as congressman this year, and excited about the newest president elect.
“I am very excited about president-elect Obama’s historical victory and since I have never been in this position before I cannot wait to serve the people in Washington,” he said.
