Surrounded by construction equipment, the Board of Directors and the Executive Management team of Shell Federal Credit Union participated in a groundbreaking ceremony to officially begin the renovation at its Deer Park main office.

Plans include increasing the footprint of the current building, adding new offices, updating existing offices with fresh paint and carpeting and constructing a partial second floor to house the new boardroom and prepare for anticipated growth in years to come.

Shell FCU was chartered in 1937 and served its 40 original members from the clock room at the Shell Chemical plant in Deer Park. As the Credit Union grew, they relocated several times before building on their present site on 13th St in 1980.

By 1992 they had outgrown the main office, so more offices were added to accommodate the growing staff, and additional upgrades were made in 1996. Since then Shell FCU has successfully changed their charter so they can offer membership to a much larger group – more than just Shell Oil and surrounding companies.

In 2001, their field of membership expanded to serve Deer Park, Pasadena and La Porte and in 2003 it was again expanded to include anyone who lives, works, attends church or school in Harris County. Shell FCU operates 3 full service branch locations in La Porte and Pasadena. Two more branches are operating inside Deer Park High School-South Campus and Sam Rayburn High School as part of their commitment to expand financial literacy among high school students.

Shell Federal Credit Union hopes this renovation will allow them the ability to serve more members and be able to host financial workshops for the community. As a financial leader, the Credit Union recently formed the Shell FCU “Furthering Community Unity” team. This team is open to anyone - not just Shell FCU employees. Since its beginning, Shell FCU has sponsored organized events including blood drives, charity walks and Habitat for Humanity workdays. If you would like to show your volunteer spirit and join the FCU team, contact the Shell FCU Marketing Dept for upcoming events.

Southmore, Suite 100, Pasadena. AND stay tuned for their OPEN HOUSE celebration in Spring 2009.
