Chili cook-off to raise money for breast cancer treatment

To offset the costs of cancer treatment for a local resident, Mulligan’s Sports Bar will be hosting a chili cook-off and motorcycle ride.
Diana Sitton, wife of Humble High School head baseball coach David Sitton, was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and has undergone surgeries during the past month. Upon hearing the news, Colleen Smith and Todd Hardy, friends of the couple, turned the cook-off into a fundraiser.
“We thought we would put it all together,” Smith said.
The motorcycle ride begins at 10 a.m., making five stops: Hog Stop, Star Café, Old Houston, Hoot County in Humble and Mulligan’s. The entry fee for riders is $25 per person.
Contestants interested in the chili cook-off should sign up at Mulligan’s. The fee is $50 per team. Teams must have two head chefs and are allowed to have as many team members as they want. The only rule for the chili is that there must be at least three gallons for the public to sample. Prizes will be awarded to the best chili and display.
There will also be a raffle with a shotgun as a prize or a cruise for two as the grand prize. In addition to the raffle, items like autographed baseballs from Nolan Ryan, Roger Clemens, Cal Ripken Jr. and Miguel Tejada will be auctioned off as part of a live and silent auction.
David Sitton said he was very gracious for the generosity of the community and his friends during their time of need.
“When you go through something like this, you find out who your friends are,” he said. “Given the situation, things couldn’t be going any better with recovery.”
