Disney World wish comes true for ill Spring boy
By OBSERVER STAFF REPORTS
Thomas Miller, a young boy from Spring with serious heart conditions, had his lifelong wish to go to Disney World come true thanks to the Kids Wish Network, an organization dedicated to infusing hope, creating happy memories and improving the quality of life for children.
Just 11 years old, Thomas struggles daily. In addition to pulmonary hypertension, he has cardiomyopathy, which is a deterioration of the heart muscle, among other complications.
His trip to Disney World was a welcomed relief from the heavy medical burden he faces daily, his mother said.
During Thomas’s visit to Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Magic Kingdom and Epcot Center, his face was painted with excitement.
“You could just look at his eyes and how he followed everything ... he loved being a part of it all,” said his mother, Sally Miller. “Thomas rode every train, boat, tram ... everything that moved! He loved it!”
At each Disney parade, his mother said he was “bouncing in his chair and clapping his hands” and inviting the characters over to say hello to each and every one.
“He greeted everyone he saw. He just got to soak it up and enjoy the company of such festive people,” she said.
Wheelchair dependent and requiring oxygen treatments, he has been in and out of the hospital most of his life.
Despite all of this, Thomas remains upbeat and outgoing. He’s got plenty of friends and doesn’t want to stop making new ones.
In fact, it was through some friends at his family’s church that his mother found out about Kids Wish Network and the joy that they bring to children with life-threatening illnesses.
