sign-up today

The city’s Parks & Recreation Department has begun its annual registration for its popular youth basketball league. It’s open to all children ages 7 to 12 as of Sept. 1, 2008.

There are two 90-minute practices per week and the city runs an all-play league in which every child is required to play a minimum of 9 minutes out of the 24-minute game (Six-minute quarters). In addition, all teams qualify for the city playoffs that will be held at the conclusion of a five-week regular season.

Sign-up will run from now through Nov. 21 during regular business hours at PAL Gym, located at 2910 E. Southmore. The athletics office will also be open on Saturday, Nov. 15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to specifically register children for the basketball league.

There will be three special sign-up locations as well. Today, officials will be at Park View Intermediate and at Bondy Intermediate on Nov. 13. For both registration sites, officials will be on hand from 4-6 p.m.

The fee is $35 for residents and $40 for non-residents. It includes a T-shirt. A birth certificate is required at the time of registration.

For additional information, call Linda at 713-475-1229.

Deepwater LL

prepares for

meeting tonight

The board of directors of Deepwater Little League has scheduled the 2008 annual meeting for Nov. 12 at 7:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Barnett Field House in the upstairs portion of the building.

You are asked to attend and help elect the new board of directors for the 2009 season. All nominations will be made from the floor.

Only members of the league will be able to nominate and vote on new board members, which makes attendance very important.

The league is looking for dynamic and energetic volunteers to help make a difference in a child’s life.

Invitational

in need of

volunteers

The McDonald’s Texas Invitational is currently seeking volunteers to help with what many consider the nation’s largest high school basketball tournament.

Set for Nov. 20-22 at sites in and around town, the event is the primary fundraiser for the Pasadena ISD Education Foundation.

Tournament officials are also looking for individuals to serve as team hosts.

If you are interested in serving in either one of those capacities, you are encouraged to call Darla Haygood at 713-594-2305 or 713-941-0616.
