Two injured in alleged high-speed crash

A woman was critically injured when the driver of a black Ford Focus rear-ended her silver Mercedes while she was stopped at a red light on the U.S. Highway 59 northbound service road at Will Clayton Parkway at approximately 7 p.m. Nov 7.
Humble Police Sgt. Ken Theis said the Ford Focus was traveling at a high rate of speed and failed to stop as it approached the intersection.
“In the course of the accident the driver of the Ford Focus also sideswiped a Ford F-150 driven by a male with a 2-year-old child in the truck,” Theis said. “Fortunately, neither of them were injured. But the Focus pushed the Mercedes clear through the intersection.”
The woman in the Mercedes was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital by Life Flight in critical condition with injuries to her left arm and back, according to authorities. The driver of the Focus was taken to the same hospital by ground ambulance.
Theis said accident investigators estimate that the driver of the Focus traveled at a speed of about 60 to 70 miles per hour in a 40-mile-per-hour zone.
Authorities are currently awaiting blood test results to determine if alcohol was a factor.
