JV 38, Bmnt. Ozen 36

The Lady Deer overcame a 12 point third quarter deficit to defeat Beaumont Ozen 38 to 36 at Watkin's gymnasium Tuesday night. The Lady Deer held Ozen scoreless in the fourth quarter. Kaylon Lawson and Karlie Sweeny led the Lady Deer in scoring with 10 points apiece. Allison Hernandez had 6 points, both Kirbie Ferrell and Morgan Dixon had 4 points. Sue Nettles and Derryn Hebert chipped in 2 points apiece to complete the scoring.

JV 37, Clear Brook 34


The Lady Deer defeated Clear Brook 37 to 34 in the championship game of the Clear Springs tournament. Leading scorers for the Deer were Morgan Dixon with 9 points, Kaylon Lawson and Kirbie Ferrell both with 7 points. Derryn Hebert and Karlie Sweeny both had 6 points and Allison Hernandez rounded out the scoring with 2 points.

JV 28, Clear Creek 25

Scoring for Deer Park were Kaylon Lawson, 12 points; Morgan Dixon, 6; Kirbie Ferrell, 5; Allison Hernandez, 3; and Sue Nettles, 2.

7th A champs

Results: Win 1st place in district tournament

Fairmont Vikings 7A wins District Championship after beating LaPorte 25-20 and 25-22. In the championship match, Fairmont played aggressively, pulling out the victory. Morgan Plunkett had an outstanding match serving 7 points in the first game and adding 5 more in the second game. Caitlin Plocheck added 8 points during the match, 2 of which were aces. Alexis Halling served up 4 points while Kelsey Davis and McKayla Gastian contributed 3 each. Madison Johnson added 1 point to ther totals. Alexis Halling was on fire at the net with 1 awesome block and 17 hits including 3 kills. Caitlin Plocheck added 9 hits while Madison Haltom put in 7. Morgan Plunkett contirbuted 3 hits and Kelsey Davis had 2. McKayla Gastian added to the totals with 1 hit for herself. The girls were confident going into the championship match having already beaten LaPorte twice. However, they maintained their focus and accomplished their goal of becoming District Champions! The Vikings finished the season with a 13-2 overall record. They were zone co-champs and District Champs! Coach Sinclair said, "I am very proud of the team. Their intensity and focus throughout the practices and games during season allowed them to obtain their goal. The girls were eager to learn and their hard work and enthusiasm made them successful."

7th B champs

Score: Win 25-22, 25-21

The 7th grade B volleyball team dominated the district tournament this weekend bringing home the title of District Champs. They started with a win against McAdams Friday night. Saturday they came back for redemption against Deer Park, and then they finished the tournament defeating Friendswood who had not lost a game all season! Contributing to the victories were our great passers: Jenna Fife, Madison Davis, Tareyn Munoz, and Miranda Caffall. Setting up our attackers at the net were Hannah Malley, Miranda Caffall, and Skye Garcia. Spikes and kills at the net were contributed by Christian Guzman, Hannah Malley, Kallie Smith, Samantha McMahon, Brianna Vasquez, and Blythe Steifel. The money makers of the game were Skye Garcia, Miranda Caffall, Brianna Vasquez, Samantha McMahon, Hannah Malley, Kallie Smith, and Blythe Steifel with their killer serves. Also contributing to these victories were Selena De La Cruz, Fabiola Cuza, Jasmine Wilcoxon, and Raegan Harris. "Great job ladies and I am so proud to be your coach," said Coach Sullivan.

8th A champs

Results: Bay Area District Champions

The Deer Park 8A Volleyball Team won the Bay Area District Championship this past weekend. Friday night the girls defeated Berry Miller 25-14 and 25-7. Saturday morning in the semi-final game, the Fawns defeated Friendswood 25-21 and 25-21. In the championship game, Deer Park defeated Pearland East 25-19 and 22-25 and 25-22. Leading the team in scoring for the tournament were Maci Brown with 37 points, Lindsey Warburton with 33 points and Caitlyn Smith with 30 points. Leading the team in hits were Smith with 34, Camrhen Sampson with 33, Warburton and Alyzabeth Vincent with 25 hits each. Vincent led the team in blocks with 5, while Sampson had 2. Warburton led the team in assists with 35 and Smith was close behind with 30. Leading the team defensively, were Warburton, Brown, Vincent, Alyssa Crawley and Mandy Renfro. Leading the team offensively, were Sampson, Smith, Warburton and Vincent. Lauren Fairley and Courtney O'Sullivan came in and did a great job of helping the Fawns to a District Championship. The girls finished the season 15-3 and completed back-to-back North Zone and back-to-back Bay Area League District Championships this year.

Expansion set for 2009

The Women’s Blue Chip Basketball League is currently accepting team applications for the 2009 season. The goal for the 2009 season is to establish at least 50 solid teams across North America and in Other Countries.

Open enrollment for the upcoming season ends Jan. 31, 2009.

ECBA seeking local teams

Introducing the Elite Club Basketball Association, (ECBA). Our goal is to provide high quality men’s basketball on the Semi-Professional level.

The ECBA administrative staff has worked hard to improve the level of Semi-Pro Basketball in the United States and to make the league operations efficient and appealing to the members.

The ECBA offers great exposure and top rate competition. The league is designed to show scouts what players are capable of doing in live game situations. Teams will compete against very talented former-college and professional players with a variety of experience.

We are expecting to start 2009 with 20 to 25 teams across Arkansas, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas, and other states.

The 2009 Season begins on May 16 and ends Aug. 15, 2009. The 2009 schedule will feature weekly games played on Saturdays.

Team enrollment ends Jan. 31, 2009.
