Copperfield message board created for residents
By VAL CLIFTON
Copperfield resident Craig Guetersloh was tired of his Middlegate neighborhood’s censorship on their community message board. So he decided to create a new venue for communications.
When Water Control Improvement District 145 announced a 15.5-mile trail proposal that voters would decide on Election Day, not everybody was in support of the measure, including Guetersloh.
Guetersloh said prior to the Trail Proposal bond election, a minimal amount of traffic made its way onto the neighborhood’s site.
But when he saw a post by someone saying that WCID 145 had won the rights to the bayous from the Harris County Flood Control District, he felt it necessary to respond with his thoughts and postings on the message board increased.
“I posted a bunch of messages trying to describe that Dick Rue had an insider interest in the Trail Proposal,” he said. “The board’s administrator got mad because I kept posting (WCID 145 board member) Dick Rue’s name, but he’s a public official.”
Soon after, the Middlegate message board was taken down by the administrator, stating cyber-bullying and defamation as the main reasoning behind its removal.
“It cut off our communication source,” Guetersloh said. “If we didn’t have anyway to communicate with other residents, they would be able to sneak this under the rug again like they did the first time.”
Since beginning his own forum for discussion, he’s seen a slight rise in traffic.
He said several people who are Dick Rue supporters have been coming in and trying to sabotage the board, resulting in the need to put screening mechanisms in place so that they won’t get spammed.
Anyone in Copperfield can use the board as long as their address can be verified with contact info.
“I’m hoping that it will be more informative,” Guetersloh said. “It seems like the homeowners association will post whatever they want you to know, and if it doesn’t help them out, they don’t want you to know about it.”
