Barbara Bush Library exhibits Panamanian children’s art

The children of Panama may be miles away from Spring geographically, but local kids can relate to and appreciate their artistic talent.
All month long the Children’s Services department at the Barbara Bush Library is featuring a Panamanian Children’s Art Exhibit, showing the works of children of Ponuga, the Province of Veraguas and the Republic of Panama.
The display wasn’t planned by the library, but rather suggested by a library patron.
The man from Panama contacted a school in his native country asking for them to send art for the project, seeking a piece of home away from home.
“We thought this would be a good cultural exchange,” said Karen LaGarde, assistant branch librarian of Children Services. “The children definitely enjoy looking at it.”
There are about 20 pastel drawings. And for educational purposes, a map of Panama is displayed in the exhibit so children can see where it is on the globe as well as posters depicting the area.
People can sign a register and leave comments for the Panamanian children.
