Kroger coupons go paperless

Clipping coupons from the Sunday paper may soon go the way of the quill pen with one grocer’s move to a paperless system.
In partnership with AOL, Kroger has launched an electronic coupon system to streamline the saving experience.
Via ShortCuts.com, Texas and Louisiana customers can select the products they want to purchase using the website’s vendor coupons and download them onto their Kroger Plus Card, said Gary Huddleston, consumer affairs director for Kroger Southwest. At checkout, the amount of the coupons is deducted from their bill.
Shortcuts.com, which features savings in products ranging from groceries to laundry detergent, also sends a reminder if the coupons haven’t been used, and thanks customers when they have.
“We think we’re on the leading edge of electronic coupons and believe it will really help our customers, especially in these times where coupon usage has gone up because of the economy,” Huddleston said.
On Kroger.com, customers can find electronic coupons through Proctor and Gamble for paper, laundry detergent, and health and beauty products.
Huddleston said there are three distinct benefits to the new system: it saves paper, the customer doesn’t have to remember to bring coupons and it speeds up the shopping process.
“At the checkout lane, it will be much speedier as well because the checker doesn’t have to take the coupon, scan it and then place it in the drawer,” Huddleston said.
