Humble post office receives new name in honor of veterans

Recognizing veterans came a day early with the dedication of the Humble post office in their honor Nov. 10.
The post office located near Bush Intercontinental Airport was full of veterans, the Humble High School JROTC color guard, East Gate Brass Band and many community dignitaries to celebrate the renaming as the Texas Military Veterans Post Office.
“We are very excited about the dedication and the renaming because it is always important to recognize veterans, especially before Veterans Day Nov. 11,” U.S. Congressman Ted Poe said. “The citizens of Texas and this community have a long history of serving their country and we cannot do enough to show our appreciation.”
Several U.S. postal employees including Kelvin Williams, Houston district manager, were on hand for the celebration and received a proclamation from Poe honoring the post office and renaming the facility.
The legislation to rename the facility was introduced to the U.S. Congress April 21, the anniversary date of Texas’ most significant military victory along the San Jacinto River in 1836.
“Since this particular post office is open 24 hours a day, it is very indicative of our military who are on guard all the time, ready serve their country,” Poe said. “We all had a good time and it is an honor to appreciate and commend those who fight for our country and keep us safe.”
