Friendswood homeowners on the annual Heritage Gardeners Christmas home tour go all out to brighten their homes for the holidays.

The Heritage Gardeners of Friendswood will present their 42nd annual old fashion Christmas home tour on Nov. 22 and 23. Four select homes will be presented for touring. The first location is at 112 W. Spreading Oaks from 1 to 5 p.m. both days.
Then the tour moves to the Frank J. Brown Historical Museum for people to experience “Christmas with no electricity.”
The next homes will feature “Toyland,” “Father Christmas,” “Christmas walk in the woods” and “Collector’s Christmas.” There will also be a Christmas bazaar, bake sale, raffle and old fashion tearoom.
The process of getting these houses ready begins each spring. Homeowners can request to be featured on the tour, but there is often a waiting list.
“We receive recommendations of houses from club members, friends, decorators, contractors and realtors,” Heritage Gardeners Publicity Chairman Kaye Corey said.
A tour committee the interviews the homeowners and tours the houses to look at safety issues, parking and traffic flow.
“We look for a variety of home styles, large and small, but with unique decorating ideas, both elegant and simple, collections and interesting twists on the holidays,” Corey said.
Picture taking is not allowed inside the homes, and hostesses are stationed in every room. The annual tour gathers approximately 400 to 600 guests per house each day. The tour continues regardless of rain, but towels and umbrellas are provided. The tour begins with lunch in the tearoom.
“Our Heritage Gardeners members are excellent cooks,” Corey said. “Our bake sale is before Thanksgiving and we sell out very quickly and find ourselves at home baking for the next day's sale. The tearoom soup and sandwiches are made fresh each morning.”
Tickets are $10 pre-tour and $15 the days of the tour. Children under 10 years get in for free. Tickets can be purchased from club members, Chamber of Commerce, Larry's Florist, Two Friends Gallery, Cake Lady and LaCasita. For more information, call 281-992-4438.
