Champagne leads District 15 rushers

For the second time in three seasons, a Cy-Fair running back leads the district in rushing.

Cy-Fair junior Tevin Champagne’s 197-yard, 3 touchdown performance in the Bobcats’ 20-10 win over Jersey Village last Friday put him over the top in rushing yards with 895 for the season. He also had 11 touchdowns.

He finished eight yards ahead of Cy Ridge senior quarterback Russell Shepard (887 yards), who led District 15 with 15 rushing touchdowns and 28 total touchdowns. Shepard will graduate from Cy Ridge next month and enroll early at LSU; he’s regarded as one of the nation’s elite high school football prospects.

Cy Ridge senior running back Hasan Lipscomb, a Minnesota commit, finished third in rushing yards with 860 and 10 touchdowns.

District Champion Cy Creek (7-1) led the district in offensive yards (495.9) and defensive yards allowed (329.4).
