Funeral services set for Bill Taylor

James William (Bill) Taylor, who started the July 4 Fireworks Over Clear Lake back in 1976, died Friday, Nov. 7, after a long illness. He was 76.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, at Crowder Funeral Home on Medical Center Boulevard in Webster.

Born and raised in Sedalia, Mo., he was regional advertising manager for Citgo prior to moving to the Clear Lake area in 1973.

Over the years, he managed and help develop many marinas including those at Watergate Yachting Center, South Shore Harbour Marina, Waterford Harbor and Clear Lake Marina. In his early years in Clear Lake, he was a member of the Clear Lake Area Chamber Blue Coats.


He was chairman of the annual Lunar Rendezvous Boat Parade, as well as the Christmas Boat Lane for many years. He was also an Eagle Scout.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Cynthia; sons and daughters-in-law, Rick and Crista Taylor, Jim and Ginger Taylor, Mike and Debi Taylor; and a daughter, Denise Sanders, as well as seven grandchildren, Ashley, Nick, Jamey, Alyson and Luke Taylor and Delaney and Devon Sanders.
