CCISD meetings to educate public
The Clear Creek Independent School District will host two informational meetings on Tuesday, Nov. 11, and Thursday, Nov. 13, in effort to educate parents and community members of the adverse affects the Texas Legislature’s public school finance bill has had on the district’s ability to keep pace with student needs and growth in the Clear Lake area.
Dr. Greg Smith, superintendent of schools; Paul McLarty, chief financial officer; Stuart Stromeyer, board president; and Robert Davee, trustee, will share information that every taxpayer should know about House Bill 1.
For example, under the current funding formula, any revenue that is generated from property value growth is diverted to the state and does not benefit Clear Creek ISD. The cost-per-student the district receives has not changed since 2006.
Additionally, the current formula does not include room for inflation, making it difficult for school districts to pay for teacher pay raises and the rising costs associated with energy, fuel, and property insurance. The public is encouraged to attend one of the following informational meetings:
Nov. 11, 2008 at 7 p.m. at Clear Lake High School Auditorium, 2929 Bay Area Blvd., Clear Lake
Nov. 13, 2008 at 7 p.m. in the Clear Creek High School Auditorium, 2305 E. Main St., League City
These informational meetings are part of the district’s new community outreach and education program called the Compass Series. The Compass Series will be held throughout the school year and will cover educational issues important to parents, students, staff, and community members.
