City of Magnolia designates promotion dollars
By TANA ROSS
Today, Nov. 19, City Administrator Ryan Kelley confirmed the city of Magnolia will be spending $30,000 of it hotel/motel tax revenues to promote the city.
“The City Council approved this expenditure at its last meeting,” Kelley said. “The money will go toward the promotion of the city.”
Included in that promotion list are improvements to the city’s historic depot park. Kelley described a joint effort between the city, the Magnolia Area Chamber of Commerce and the Magnolia Historical Society which operates the depot.
“In the future we hope one of the buildings at the depot park might be used as a visitors’ center,” Kelley said.
Texas tax code requires that hotel/motel tax revenue be used solely to promote tourism and the convention industry. Historic restoration and preservation projects, activities or advertising and solicitations along with promotional programs to encourage tourism and convention use to visit a location or city is specifically allowed by the code.
