Cole inks with Rice Owls
Rice University head volleyball coach Genny Volpe has announced the signing of Memorial High School outside hitter Nancy Cole to a national letter of intent to attend Rice and play for the Owls next fall.
“Nancy is going to be a force at the net immediately upon coming to Rice,” head coach Genny Volpe said. “She has size, is a great blocker, is very competitive and is a well-skilled volleyball player. Nancy’s quickness allows her to move along the net swiftly and efficiently. She has the ability to play all three front-row positions as she can hit a quick tempo ball as well as second and third tempos with pace and control”
Cole guided the Lady Mavs to a third consecutive state playoff berth this fall and in the process led the Houston area with 630 kills for a strong 6.75 kills per set average. She also scored a school record 37 kills in a non-district match against Spring, a record that may never be broken.
The daughter of John and Shane Cole, she is rated 62nd in the nation by PrepVolleyball.com and she’s an all-state selection by LoneStarVolleyball.com. During her junior year when Memorial claimed its first-ever postseason prize, Cole led the Houston area with 500 kills and was second in kills with 494. The 6-foot-3 player has been selected to the district First Team three times and a two-time MVP.
In addition to Cole, Rice also announced the signing of Megan Murphy from Plano West High School, who was the club’s record-setting setter for the district champion Lady Wolves.
