Cy Woods, K-Forest a clash of styles

It’s difficult to imagine two football teams any more different than Cy Woods and Klein Forest.

The Wildcats (7-2) will travel to play the Golden Eagles (9-1) at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Klein Memorial Stadium in a UIL Class 5A Division I playoff game.

Cy Woods has won most of its games convincingly, scoring points at will in a hurry-up offense; they take a five-game winning streak into the second round playoff game.

“The offensive coaches have put together a nice package of offensive plays, usually we run a pretty quick pace,” Cy Woods coach David Jones said. “We like to snap the ball as many times as we can, and the kids have really bought into it. By the end of the year, you ought to be executing pretty well.”

Klein Forest, winners of seven straight, captured a share of the District 13 championship. The Golden Eagles have won five games by six points or less.

“I think it’s great resilience for the kids,” Klein Forest coach Kenny Hammock said. “Never giving up, perserverance. Everything a coach wants. We looked up the word win in the dictionary and it says to win by one point or more, and we’re doing that. We’re not a very blow em out type team cause we play ball control and we have a good defense. The games we play are gonna be close.”

Both teams had close games in their playoff openers; Cy Woods edged Georgetown, 21-20 last Saturday, and Klein Forest defeated Conroe, 13-7, in a defensive slugfest.
