HEMPSTEAD – On Tuesday, November 4, Waller County Commissioner’s Court authorized the County Treasurer to issue a check in the amount of $500,705.32 to the Texas Department of Transportation Trust Fund, once funds are received by Waller County. The money came from the Waller County Interchange Improvement Account – II.

On Thursday, November 6, Commissioner’s Court met in a special session. In that meeting, the court approved an official bond and oath for Rick Brass, Deputy Constable of Precinct 2. In addition, the commissioners approved a contract with TAC Security for a Security System for the Justice of the Peace/Fieldstore Annex, in the amount of $1200 for installation and $162.50 for monthly fees.

The court approved the purchase of software, including SAFE Software, Agency Septic Package for the OSSF Program, with the total purchase price not to exceed $1800; and maintenance software for Arc View Program in the amount of $1000.

Commissioners approved work within the City of Prairie View, in accordance with the interlocal agreement between Waller County and the City of Prairie View, to clean ditches along the east and west sides of Alonzo Street, ditches along the north and south sides of Smith Street and ditches along the north and south side of Wells Street in the Concord Village Subdivision.

They also approved work to clean ditches along the north and south sides of Smith Street in the Hillcrest Subdivision. If the funds allocated by the County are not sufficient to cover the cost of this work, the City of Prairie View agreed to pay the extra cost.

Commissioners approved a payment of $1500 to Schmidt Funeral Home in Brookshire for pauper cremation, and approved payment of $515 for First Call.

Commissioners withdrew the action to grant a discretionary exemption from competitive bidding requirement for a contract to remove asbestos flooring from the old Hospital Building, and to authorize the County Judge to sign the contract.

In other business, commissioners ratified accounts accounts payable and line item and budgetary transfers, and amended the 2008 Budget to accommodate the Chapter 19/Voter Registration Fund. They also discussed and approved the purchase of a laptop needed, due to e-filing in the District Clerk’s Office.

In a workshop that met after the special meeting, a Facilities Master Plan presentation was given by PGAL, and commissioners discussed revising the salary order and adopting a 2009 pay scale for the Road and Bridge Department, though no action was taken.
