Just like everyone else, governmental agencies have bills to pay.
In the case of the city of Pasadena, those bills carry a slightly higher price tag than a typical household in the city.
The Pasadena City Council will meet at 7:30 p.m. today in Council Chambers at City Hall. Pre-council is scheduled to start in the chambers at 7 p.m.
Among the items to be approved are progress payments totaling more than $653,000 and a weekly finance resolution of more than $3.86 million.
Progress payments are made to companies and/or vendors who are doing work for the city. The big payment this week will go to Manhattan Construction. The company will receive its 18th payment from the city for work on the new Pasadena Police Department complex. This one is for more than $577,400.
SER Construction Partners is slated to receive more than $22,300 for pavement improvements to Vista Road at Burke Road. Brooks Concrete is in line to receive more than $45,000 for ongoing work on sidewalks around the city.
More than one-third of the finance resolution, which includes checks written by the city, is being earmarked for the Texas Municipal League Intergovernmental Risk Pool for insurance expenses. The cost is more than $1.39 million.
Water services are taking up a sizeable portion of the finance resolution, as well. HD Supply Waterworks will get a check of more than $559,250 for meter reading devices while the city of Houston will get a check for more than $373,500 for water usage in September.
Under final readings of ordinances, Hall Buick, Pontiac, GMC in Tyler will receive more than $495,000 for a pumper truck for the Pasadena Volunteer Fire Department if the ordinance passes.
Under first readings, the Pasadena Police Department is in line to get a crime-fighting robot. The department’s Bomb Unite will get the $196,589 tool if the ordinance passes its initial reading today and a second one, expected to come next week.
The bills for Hurricane Ike are continuing to come in for the city, as well. When the city’s call center went down in the wake of the storm, the city turned to 3States.Net for satellite phone service. The cost in an ordinance to be read for the first time today is more than $38,450.
The city may be able to get back some of all that money spent if an ordinance allowing the sale of property at the Old Vince Bayou Wastewater Treatment plant is approved. Two plots totaling 4.848 acres of land would be sold to U.S. Oil Recovery No. 2 for $545,000.
The Pasadena City Council meets each Tuesday. The first meeting of each month is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. while the second meeting is slated to begin at 10 a.m. The meetings alternate between evenings and mornings the remainder of the month.
