AWESOME ABS & BEAUTIFUL BACKS PROGRAM

The Kingwood Fitness and Sports Center announces a new program to the community called Awesome Abs & Beautiful Backs. Session dates are Dec. 1-17. The program meets twice a week for three weeks. The cost for the entire program $60 for members and $120 for non-members. This class will meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 8-8:30 a.m. This 30-minute session is designed to increase flexibility and build core strength.

Pre-registration is required and class size is limited. The Kingwood Fitness and Sports Center is located at the Kingwood Country Club, 1700 Lake Kingwood Trail. For more information, or to register, call 281-348-2205.


PEDAL AND PUSH FITNESS PROGRAM

Pedal and Push at the Kingwood Fitness and Sports Center fuses indoor cycling and upper-body strength training. The program meets twice a week for four weeks, with the next session to begin Dec. 2. Classes are at either 7:45 or 11 a.m. The cost for the eight classes is $160 for members and $240 for non-members.

This program is open to adults with all levels of fitness. Class size is limited.

BEGINNER PILATES

Now is the perfect time to start Pilates with others inexperienced in the Pilates method. Kingwood Athletic Club is forming a beginner Pilates Reformer class to be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays Dec. 2-11 from 11 a.m.-noon.

Members and nonmembers alike are welcome. Participation in these four classes will prepare students for group classes on the regular schedule.

Pilates is gentle, effective and accessible to people of all fitness levels and ages. Not only do participants gain strength and flexibility, but they also achieve a mind-body connection which stimulates a sense of wholeness and wellbeing.

Class size in this special beginner class is limited to six, so be sure to call Kingwood Athletic Club soon at 281-358-7765, ext 240. Discounts will be given to those registering before Nov. 29.

HOLIDAY BASEBALL CAMP

The 2008 Holiday Baseball Camp for youngsters ages 8-18 will be held Dec. 20-21 at the Lindsay/Lyons Sports Complex at 2310 Atascocita Road in Humble. Chris Smith, LA Dodgers scout and former college coach, will direct the camp. He will be assisted by David Sitton, head coach at Humble High School.

The camp, a comprehensive program on hitting, pitching and throwing mechanics, will offer quality instruction in the fundamentals of baseball and an opportunity for practice and drills. Each camper will be filmed and evaluated by the staff during the camp.

The cost is $80, which includes nine hours of instruction in three sessions: 9 a.m.-noon Dec. 20, 1-4 p.m. Dec. 20, and 1-4 p.m. Dec. 21. Camp attendance will be limited.

KINGWOOD YOGA

Marita Gardner-Anopol will present “Yoga 4 Kids in the Rain Forest,” her brand new board game, invented and published just in time for holiday shopping. Players learn 52 yoga poses and breathing techniques that have proven to increase test scores in school-age children by 84 percent.

Introduce children to yoga with the game or lessons offered exclusively at Kingwood Yoga Tuesday at 4:15 p.m. and Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

EXERCISE CLASSES

The Houston Area Parkinson Society is holding exercise classes every week on Wednesdays from 10-11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Humble, 800 E. Main Street. There is no charge. For more information, contact Alfonso Hernandez at 713-520-8670.

TRIATHLON TRAINING SERIES

Kingwood Athletic Center is offering a beginner triathlon training series. The series is broken up into eight training sessions to lay down the principles of triathlon training and ends with a sprint triathlon.

KICKBOXING CLASS

Martial Arts Family Fitness-Houston is offering kickboxing classes, their most popular and exciting class. The kickboxing with bags class will tone muscles, improve overall strength, increase flexibility, relieve stress and it’s fun. It combines the kicking techniques of martial arts and the punching and jabbing of boxing into an energizing, fast-paced, 45-minute cardiovascular workout. YOGA FOR KIDS

Kingwood Yoga is holding fall registration for classes and birthday parties for children ages 4-12 and teens 13 and up.

The Humble Wildcat Football Booster Club is currently sponsoring telephone sales of the 13th annual Humble-Kingwood Dining & Shopping Spree Coupon Book.

MOMMY AND ME CLASSES

Kingwood Athletic Club now hosts Mommy and Me classes.

Mothers will work out indoors on blankets with their babies in their arms.

Instructors will be using playtime to firm up mommies with pushup kisses, airplane ride crunches, sun salutations with tickles and giggles, and so much more.

Babies should be well-rested and nourished.

STRENGTHENING & REHAB THROUGH PILATES

Many people are using the Pilates reformer with great success after experiencing a hip or knee replacement, low back pain, a stroke or a host of other age-related difficulties.

After a series of workshops focusing specifically on how the Pilates reformer can address these needs, the Pilates instructors at Kingwood Athletic Club are proud to offer personal training sessions dedicated to rehab in these areas. These classes are open to members and non-members alike.
