McCaul wins re-election to US House, thanks supporters
From Staff Reports
AUSTIN – Congressman Michael McCaul (R-TX 10) handily won his race for a third term in the U.S. House of Representatives, emerging victorious with a resounding double-digit victory in one of the most difficult election seasons for Republicans.
“My district knows me. I have stood up for the people of my district and have taken tough votes against my party and against the president, and the voters stood up for me,” said Rep. McCaul. “The voters of the 10th District know that I am an independent voice for them in Congress. To win in this environment with so much support for Senator Obama is especially satisfying.”
Congressman McCaul is proud of having run a positive campaign on the issues that matter most to his constituents. “People reward a positive and constructive message, not politics of destruction,” said Rep. McCaul. “The people of my district know what I stand for and I’m excited to return to Washington to represent the great people of the 10th District for another two years.”
Congressman McCaul will return to Washington with Republicans still in the minority and having lost seats in both the House and Senate, as well as having lost the White House. Rep. McCaul vowed to continue to reach across the aisle and work in a spirit of bipartisanship to move America forward.
Congressman McCaul celebrated his Election Night victory with his family, friends and supporters in Austin.
The 10th Congressional District spans eight counties from Austin to the suburbs west of Houston, and includes Austin, Bastrop, Burleson, Harris, Lee, Travis, Washington and Waller Counties.
