Plans underway for Christmas in Magnolia

Updated: 11.14.08
People from the entire Magnolia area region are expected to be involved in the Christmas celebration slated for Saturday, Dec. 13. With this year’s theme of, “The Nutcracker,” the annual Magnolia Christmas Parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. The parade is sponsored by the Magnolia Area Chamber of Commerce.

For the past several years the parade, a tradition for more than three decades, has been in the afternoon. Planners have gone back to the morning time for the start of this year’s parade, after several requests for a morning event were considered. The route has also been changed and will wind through Magnolia Ridge, a subdivision with its main entrance on FM 1488, on the east side of the city.

The parade is just one venue of the day celebrating the holidays on Dec. 13 in the city of Magnolia. In addition, the Magnolia Historical Society will offer its second annual Cookie Express at the Magnolia Community Building on the hisotiric depot grounds on Melton Street. Volunteers will start selling the delicious homemade Christmas goodies at 11:30 a.m. The chamber is hosting vendors in the depot area, and booths will open at 10 a.m. — just in time for Christmas shopping.

Businesses are encouraged to join the Reindeer Trail as well. The chamber sponsors the Reindeer Trail to bring potential customers/clients into local businesses. By agreeing to establish a location for a door prize drawing, the chamber will publicize a business’s partnership with the Reindeer Trail to reward shoppers and benefit area businesses. Participating businesses need not be a member of the chamber to partner. Chamber personnel can provide more information.

Contact the Chamber office to obtain an entry form to ride in the parade. Entry deadline is at 4 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 5. All entries will need one representative to attend the parade meeting that will be at the Magnolia Community Building at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 9. Vendors may obtain a form through the chamber office as well. Call 281-356-1488, e-mail info@magnoliatexas.org, or visit the chamber office at 18935 FM 1488 in the Prosperity Bank Building.
