It’s time again to begin preparing for the 15th Annual USMC Toys for Tots Toy Run on Saturday, Dec. 13 at 10:30 a.m. The need for toys is much greater this year, because of the devastation to families during Hurricane Ike. The public is encouraged to attend.
Although the Toy Run itself is for motorcycle riders, donations are badly needed from the general public. Admission to the festivities at the Pasadena Rodeo Grounds is a $5 donation or a new unwrapped toy of equal or greater value. The riders will leave Walter Hall Park in League City at 10:30 a.m. and proceed to the Pasadena Rodeo Grounds for a full day of fun for the entire family.
On hand will be a train ride, Santa Claus and his elves and kid games. For adults, there will be bike games, chili cook-off, an auction, motorcycle show, VW Auto Club, a 4x4 Show and Shine, with a Car Crush. Vendors will offer items for Christmas gifts. A 2008 Softtail Deluxe Harley-Davidson will be raffled for $20 a ticket and a 1995 Nissan Pathfinder will be raffled for $5 per ticket. Visit www.toysfortotstoyrun.com.

Dwayne Jones has announced that the 35th Annual “Dickens on the Strand” will be held on Dec. 6 and Dec. 7, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will be some special events this year in addition to the perennial favorites – a Dickens Feast and Holiday Handbell Concerts are scheduled for Friday, Dec. 5. A great-great-grandson of Charles Dickens, Henry Dickens Hawksley, will travel from England to serve as Grand Marshal.
