GRIMES COUNTY – Two Montgomery High School graduates, who were roommates at Texas Tech University, died in a car accident Sunday afternoon.

Jeffrey Michael Inns, 19, and Kyle “Drew” Anderson, 19, were headed back to school Sunday after a weekend trip home to see family and take their college friends to the Renaissance Festival.

Inns and Anderson were passengers in a 2008 Subaru driven by Robert Baigrie, 19, of Nassau Bay. Also in the Subaru were Marissa Whitworth, 18, of San Antonio, and Chelsea Wiseman, 18, of Austin.

While heading west on Texas 105, 2.7 miles east of Plantersville, the Subaru entered the eastbound lane of traffic, crashing into a 2006 Dodge Ram truck driven by Franklin Gregory Kirsch, of Montgomery, according to Texas Department of Public Safety reports. The crash occurred at mile marker 666.

Grimes County Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace John LeFlore pronounced Inns and Anderson dead at the scene at 2:40 p.m. Both were wearing seatbelts, reports show.

Whitworth and Wiseman, who reportedly were not wearing seatbelts, were taken to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center in Houston where they remained in critical condition Monday. Whitworth suffered head trauma and internal bleeding. Wiseman suffered an internal head injury, DPS reports show.

Baigrie, who was wearing a seatbelt, suffered a non-life-threatening neck injury and was taken to Conroe Regional Medical Center.

The only other person injured was Garrison Kirsch, 5, of Montgomery, who was a passenger in the Dodge truck. He was wearing a seatbelt. He suffered bruises and abrasions and was taken to CRMC.

The college students all stayed at the Lake Conroe home of Inns’ parents, Dr. Douglas and Lynn Inns, Friday, before heading to the Renaissance Festival, Lynn Inns said. Inns and Anderson were excited to take their friends to the Montgomery County festival, and the group decided to camp out at the grounds Saturday night, returning Sunday morning for showers, she said.

Inns and Anderson, who were 2007 graduates of Montgomery High School, became friends at Texas Tech. The sophomores recently moved into a house near campus owned by Anderson’s grandmother.

“They were so happy and they just adopted a cat,” Lynn Inns said. “They are just good kids.”

Anderson, son of Kyle and Paige Anderson, was studying pre-law. Inns was studying pre-med because he hoped to follow in his father’s footsteps and become an optometrist.

“Jeffrey loved life and he got along with people well and he never had an enemy or a negative word,” Lynn Inns said. “He also loved his brothers.”

Inns was one of five boys in his family and was especially close to his twin brother, Scott Douglas Inns.

Montgomery High School English teacher Margo Fleming said she remembers how Inns and his identical twin brother tried to “play ‘oh, that’s not me, that’s him,” type of games with her and she joked with them about getting different haircuts so she could distinguish between them.

“Jeffrey had a tendency to prolong the assignments because I don’t think English was his favorite subject, but he was a good student,” Fleming said. “They were both fine young men. I remember where both of them sat. Drew was creative and very intelligent.”

For two years in high school, Anderson was an active member of the theater group.

“He was passionate about the theater and he was creative and artistic,” said Suzanne Ray, the school’s theater director. “A very talented young man.”

Funeral services for Inns will start at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Fellowship of The Woodlands Church, located at One Fellowship Drive. Interment will follow in Forest Park-The Woodlands Cemetery, located at 18000 Interstate 45 S. A visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Metcalf Funeral Home, located at 1801 E. White Oak Terrace.

A memorial service for Anderson will start at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Lone Star Cowboy Church, located at 1131 Eva St. in Montgomery.
