Lake Conroe Fishing Report

Fishing on Lake Conroe is good. The surface temperature of the water is running around 70 degrees in the main lake and the water is clear. The level is still a little over a foot below pool at 199.72 feet.
The black bass are good and guide Butch Terpe said those he has caught have been along the edge of flats as well as along the docks. Terpe said early along the shallows is a good start using shallow crankbaits, spinner baits and top water lure in two to six feet of water. Around the docks he used a Texas rigged, black, five inch worm with 5/0 hooks and let them drift down producing strikes.
Catfish are still around the FM 1097 Bridge and on the edges of the river channel in 20 feet of water. Terpe said he took out a party of three people and they limited out with 75 catfish in 3 1/2 hours. The fish are being caught on prepared stink bait, or cheese dip on sponge hooks.
Crappie are being caught at 12 feet on shallow brush and structures. They are also on deeper brush 18 feet. Terpe said he was using a white or chartreuse jig with a small split shot to get them down and also minnows with success.
White bass and hybrids are fair. Terpe said they are on the south end of the lake at 15 to 20 feet deep over main lake points. Trolling the points to locate them and then jigging was a good plan.
Bream are available on deep brush as the water cools along with the crappie.

The San Jacinto River Authority still has posted the boating advisory, “Boaters are urged to use extreme caution on Lake Conroe due to the presence of floating and submerged debris from Hurricane Ike.”
