Lake Conroe Fishing Report
By Larry J. LeBlanc
Fishing is still good to excellent and the water temperature has been running in the mid 70s and the water is clear. The level is a little under pool at 199.72 feet.
Black bass fishing is good and a lot of seven- and eight-pound bass are still being caught as well as a lot of small fish. Guide Wayne Whitehead reports that the bass are located around the boat docks and the brush from 5 to 16 feet. Most of the bass are reported to have been caught on top water lures early and shallow and mid running crankbaits around docks and other structures.
Crappie fishing is still up and down. They are back in the deep water at 10 to 20 feet deep over brush and other structure like the FM 1097 Bridge. Minnows are the best bait and Whitehead said a lot of small fish are being caught. Minnows and chartreuse jigs are your best bait.
Catfish are excellent. The best action is on baited holes from 17 to 25 feet deep. They are running in size from 1 1/2 to four pounds. Glowworms, liver and prepared bait are all working well as bait as well as shrimp dipped in cheese. Some nice blue cats up to six pounds have been caught by drifting shad near deep ridges.
White bass are a little hard to find. Whitehead said he heard rumor that some were being caught around the pump station, but exploring in the area showed no fish.
Bream are excellent and the big ones are around structures and boat docks. They are biting on the night crawlers.
