Red Ribbon Week set for Oct. 20-24

Red Ribbon Week in Friendswood ISD will be celebrated October 20-24. Again this year, the week coincides with National Character Counts! Week and will be celebrated together.

Character Counts has been a focus for the district in grades kindergarten through twelfth grades. One pillar out of the six pillars of character are highlighted each month on all FISD campuses.

Red Ribbon and Character Counts! Week will begin with a kickoff event in Stevenson Park. Wrap the Town Red pep rally is October 18. Mayor Dave Smith and Superintendent Trish Hanks will welcome everyone to the pep rally. Groups from each campus will perform at the pep rally beginning at 9 am.

Each campus has planned daily activities and themes for the week.


Westwood Elementary will celebrate Hooked on Character for a Drug-free Future; Bales and Windsong Intermediates’ theme is Be a Good Sport! Choose to be Drug-free. Friendswood High School will use What is your anti-drug? Hooked on Care-acter will be Cline Elementary’s theme.

Red Ribbon Week continues to be Friendswood’s largest awareness activity with respect to drug use. All schools continue anti-drug education throughout the year.

The week is under the direction of Debbie Woodson, lead counselor for FISD.
