From local issues and candidates to the presidency, you’ll find what you need to know to cast an informed ballot — and be the first to find out results on election night Nov. 4 — at our comprehensive new website, http://hcnelections.com.

The journalists of Houston Community Newspapers’ 35 editions — including The Potpourri — report on city, county, state and congressional races with the insight that comes from HCN’s hyperlocal focus. You can also read opinion columns and letters to the editor from area experts and readers to understanding what’s being said about those contests right in your own neighborhoods.

The site, developed by HCN Director of Online Development Mike Read, also allows you to link simply to an array of election information sources, including political parties, the League of Women Voters and county election agencies to learn about everything from endorsements to biographical data and positions of candidates to where and when to vote.

This community coverage is combined with the resources of HCN’s online host, TownNews, to cover the presidential contest and issues from sources such as CNN, the Washington Post, USA Today and popular political blogs.

“With so much at stake in this election, from your own communities to the White House, we set out to provide the most thorough and easily navigated site possible to help our readers make informed choices,” said Jonathan McElvy, HCN general manager. “We think voters will find us an indispensable source right up to the election and the place to go to on election night to find out results first.”
