Fall Back Festival slated for Saturday
Preparations are being made for the third Annual Fall Back Festival, which is a celebration of the rich history of La Porte and Sylvan Beach during the Roaring ’20s on Saturday, Oct. 25.
The Street Fair takes place on historic Main Street on Saturday, Oct. 25, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. The non stop live entertainment features numerous genres of music influenced by the jazz, blues and mountain strings.
Headliners include Ezra Charles and the Works, Norma Zentano Band, Step Rideau and the Zydeco Outlaws, Umbrella Man, Abel Salazar Band and more.
The street festival also showcases a 1920s costume contest, great food, beverages, juried fine arts, arts and crafts, ballroom dance performances, carriage rides, a street dance, a vaudeville show, giant inflatable attractions, hot dog eating contest, strolling entertainers, silent movies and “speakeasies” offering adult beverages.
Admission to the family-friendly street fair is free.
“In the hey days of the 1920s and 1930’s, Sylvan Beach was known as the ‘Coney Island of the South.’ Currently, La Porte boasts the revitalization of Main Street which attracts antique hunters, loyal restaurant patrons, and tourists. Soon sandy beaches will be returned to Sylvan Beach due to a renourishment project,” said Debra Dye, Main Street coordinator.
The Fall Back Festival is sponsored by city of La Porte’s Main Street Program.
