Hazardous waste center opens in League City
A drop-off center for household hazardous materials has been established in League City to help facilitate easier cleanup after Hurricane Ike.
Located at Eva Lobit Park, 1901 FM 646, the center serves residents from League City, Bayou Vista, Hitchcock, Omega Bay, Tiki Island, Bayview, Kemah, San Leon, Bacliff, Clear Lake Shores and areas of Dickinson and Clear Lake affected by flooding.
The center is open Saturday, Oct. 18, through Sunday, Oct 26, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Acceptable materials include batteries, paint, workshop supplies, cleaning and pool supplies, lawn and garden products, indoor pesticides, thermometers, automotive products and other hazardous chemicals.
The following materials will not be accepted: Animal manure or carcasses, human or biological waste, needles or sharp objects, appliances, muitions, explosives, electronic waste, spoiled food, mold-damaged items, tires, furniture or general trash.
Residents are asked to clearly mark containers with contents before dropping them off.
Place leaking containers in plastic bags to prevent spills.
Remember that household hazardous items should never be dumped, poured down drains or into streets.
