Baseball boosters golf tourney

The Who’s on First Baseball Booster Club will host its fourth annual golf tournament to benefit the Deer Park High School baseball team.

The event is scheduled to start with an 8 a.m. shotgun start on Saturday, Nov. 8, at Battleground Golf Course, 1600 Georgia. The entry deadline is Oct. 29. The format is a four-person Florida Scramble.


The fees are:

$465 for a corporate sponsor, including four golfers and a tee box sign.

$340 team sponsor for four golfers.

$125 tee box sponsor.

$85 per player, who will be placed on a team, including green fee, cart, range balls and lunch.

$5 for each Mulligan (no limit).

Deer Park Junior HighVolleyball

7th A 2, Lomax 0

Score/Results: 25-12, 25-6

The 7A volleyball team defeated Lomax in two games by the score of 25-12 and 25-6. Mariah Mills led all scorers with 13 points, while Maddi Williston had 11 points. Ali Dupin and Alana Tinker also had good serving games with 8 and 7 points respectively. The team was led defensively by the passing of Tinker and Jocelyn Schoppe. Others contributing to the win were Abby Hawthorne, Jada Knott, Michelle Linton and Kara Sollock. The girls are now 1, 0 in zone play and will play in the Kingwood tournament this weekend. Most Valuable Player, Maddi Williston; Offensive Player, Mariah Mills; Defensive Player, Alana Tinker.

7th A 2, Deepwater 0

Score/Results: 25-10, 25-10

The 7A Lady Vikings defeated Deepwater in two games: 25-10 and 25-10. Outstanding servers for the games were McKayla Gastian, Madison Haltom and Alexis Halling. Attacking at the net were Caitlin Plocheck, Madison Haltom, and Morgan Plunkett. Devann Hebert and Madison Johnson had great passing. Also contributing to the win was Kelsey Davis, Sarah Freshour, and Skye Garcia. The Vikings are 2-0 overall and 1-0 in zone play.

8th A 2, Lomax 1

Score/Results: 20-25, 25-14, 25-19

The 8A Volleyball team defeated Lomax 20-25, 25-14 and 25-19. Leading scorers were Lindsey Warburton with 16 points, while Alyzabeth Vincent and Camrhen Sampson had 15 points each. Leading the team in hits were Lindsey Warburton with 12 hits and Caitlyn Smith with 10 hits. Offensive players for the game were Warburton, Vincent and Sampson, while defensive players were Courtney O’Sullivan and Maci Brown.

8th B 2, Lomax 0

Score/Results: 25-10, 25-9

The 8B Lady Fawns won their first zone game last night beating Lomax 25-10 and 25-9. Leading the team in scoring was Becca Rodriguez with 16 points followed by Amanda Antra with 8 and Anslee Davidson with 6 points. Becca Rodriguez lead the team in hits with 6 followed by Lauren Allen and Taylor Overstreet each with 4 hits apiece and Erica Harris had 3 hits. Amanda Antra lead the team in assists with 6 followed by Annslee Davidson and Becca Rodriguez each with 4. Defensively the team was lead by Samantha Cervantes, Tiffany Ramons and Alicia Nettles. Others contributing to the win include: Amanda Dahnke, Frannie Escoto, Taylor Obenberger, Lauren Oehler, Brooke Erdmann and Sarah Sanford. MVP: Becca Rodriguez

Fairmont Junior HighVolleyball8th B wins tourneyOct. 11 at Fairmont Jr. HighThe Fairmont 8B volleyball team won 1st place in the Sideout Tournament this past weekend. The girls defeated Brookside on Friday night by scores of 25-12, 25-8. That put the girls playing Deer Park on Saturday. The girls came out a little slow but fought back the first game but it was a little too late, losing 18-25. But the ladies came out the second game on fire and beat them 25-7, making it go to a third game. The Vikings never lost the led and won 25-21. This put them into the championship game against Riverside. They came out with confidence and energy and killed Riverside 25-16. With the winning serve from Bailey “Buff” Davis the Vikings won the second game 25-13 to clinch the championship. Leading the team in scoring for the the weekend were Madeline Wadsworth with 41 points, Kori Schumann with 32, and Marissa Garcia with 25 points. We were aggressive at the net with Taylor Tice, Haley Lofton, Bailey Davis and Shannon Crosby all having blocks. Caytlin Kee and Taylor Tice dominated the offense with 16 hits apiece. Rebecca Chance, Marisa Garcia, Courtney Saxton, and Madeline Wadsworth were our defensive queens digging everything up and letting nothing hit the floor. “The girls did a GREAT job, I was so proud to be their coach this weekend,” said Coach Milliorn. “Awesome job, girls! 1st place!”7th A 2, Creekside JH 0Oct. 11 at Fairmont Jr. HighScore/Results: 25-11, 25-18 (3rd place)Fairmont defeated Creekside in the final game of the tournament to take 3rd place in the Sideout Booster Club Tournament. Farimont’s win brought the team’s record to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in zone play. The tournament was great experience for the players whose season was interrupted by Hurricane Ike. Caitlin Plocheck served up 12 points in two games. Morgan Plunkett and McKayla Gastian added 5 points apiece. Skye Garcia and Madison Haltom put in 4 points each. Devann Hebert served up 3 points while Kelsey Davis had 2 points. Alexis Halling had 1 block during the match. Kelsey Davis, Madison Haltom, and Madison Johnson had 2 hits each. One of Johnson’s hits was a kill. Alexis Halling also had a kill. Sarah Freshour, Caitlin Plocheck, and Morgan Plunkett each added 1 hit to the stat sheet. The Vikings did outstanding the tournament and gained much needed experience from their games. “I was pleased with their performance and look forward to the remainder of the season to see the improvements they will continue to make and the victories they will have,” said Coach Kelly Sinclair. Friendswood 2, 7th A 0Oct. 11 at Fairmont Jr. HighScore/Results: 21-25, 21-25Fairmont lost to Friendswood in two evenly matched games with scores of 21-25 and 21-25. The girls fought hard, but couldn’t come up with the win. Leading the offense were Madison Haltom with 8 hits (1 kill) and Caitlin Plocheck with 8 hits also. Devann Hebert and Alexis Halling each had 3 hits. Kelsey Davis, Sarah Freshour, and Skye Garcia put in 1 apiece. Caitlin Plocheck also had 2 blocks at the net. Kelsey Davis led in serving points with 11 in the match. Caitlin Plocheck put in 8. Alexis Halling had 2 points while McKayla Gastian had 1. This lose brought Fairmont record to 3-1 overall and sent them to the 3rd place game in the tournament. 7th A 2, Brookside 0Oct. 10 at Fairmont Jr. HighScore/Results: 25-11, 25-13Fairmont defeated Brookside in the first game of the Sideout Booster Club tournament Friday, Oct 10th at 4:30 pm. The scores were 25-11 and 25-13. Madison Haltom led the serving with 10 points. Caitlin Plocheck put in 7 points while Madison Johnson had 5 points. Alexis Halling served 4 and Kelsey Davis and McKayla Gastian had 2 apiece. Morgan Plunkett added 1 point. Alexis Halling had 5 hits with 2 kills. Madison Haltom had 4 hits and Caitlin Plocheck had 3. Kelsey Davis, Sarah Freshour, Madison Johnson, and Morgan Plunkett put in 1 each. Sarah Freshour also had a block. This win advanced the Vikings to Saturday’s games with a record of 3-0. 7th B 2, Creekside 0Oct. 11 at Creekside IntermediateScore/Results: Win 25-13, 25-20FJH built up their spirits from the last game against Friendswood and came back determined to take third place in the battle against Creekside. Miranda Caffell, Hannah Malley, Kallie Smith, Brianna Vasquez, and Blythe Steifel landed their serves some of which were untouchable. Key passers were Christian Guzman, Jenna Fife, Jasmine Wilcoxon, and Kallie Smith. Key sets were made by Hannah Malley and Miranda Caffall. Three amazing attacks at the net were contributed by Christian Guzman, Samantha McMahon, and Selena DelaCruz. Friendswood 2, 7th B 0Oct. 11 at Friendswood Jr. HighScore/Results: 11-25, 22-25Unfortunately FJH lost to Friendswood with a close second game. Miranda Caffell, Raegan Harris, and Kallie Smith racked up the points in serves, but it just wasn’t enough. 8th A 2, Deepwater 0Oct. 10 at Fairmont Jr. HighScore/Results: 25-16, 25-11The Lady Vikings 8B volleyball team beat Deepwater last night by scores of 25-16 and 25-11. The girls started out a little slow but then came on strong to finish the win. The high scorer for the night was Courtney Saxton with 8 points and 1 ace. Caytlin Kee and Kori Schumann both had 7 points and 3 aces. Taylor Tice had 4, Marisa Garcia, Madeline Wadsworth, and Haley Lofton all had 2 points each. Caytlin Kee and Taylor Tice led the team on the net with 4 hits. Rebecca Chance and Kori Schumann both had 2 hits. Marisa Garcia, Haley Lofton, Courtney Saxton, and Madeline Wadsworth all had 1 each a piece. Bailey “Buff” Davis and Shannon Crosby played tough on the net for the Vikings. “The girls showed a lot of character for coming back and putting the game away for our first zone win. Keep it up girls,” said Coach Milliorn. 7th B 2, Deepwater 0Oct. 9 at Fairmont Jr. HighScore/Results: 25-14 and 25-117th Grade B team dominated both games against Deepwater. Contributing to the win was Miranda Caffall with 10 great serves 5 passes and 3 significant sets. Christian Guzman had 9 scoring serves, Madison Davis, Brianna Vasquez, Kallie Smith, and Samantha McMahon also had part in racking up the points with their serves. Caffall, Malley, McMahon, and Smith all used their “ups” to spike the ball with an “in your face” attitude. Coach Sillavan is very proud of all the players and said, “let’s go undefeated all the way.”8th A 2, Deepwater 1Oct. 9 at Deepwater Jr. HighScore/Results: 25-20, 21-25, 25-21. Congratulations to the 8A team on defeating Deepwater 25, 20, 21, 25 and 25, 21. Leading the serving category was Katie Tadlock with 22 points. Paige Stephens had 6 pts. Tiffany Boston had 5 pts. Chelsey Dungan and Raegan Meek had 3 pts. a piece. Malorie Lee and Sarah Baumgartner had 1 pt. a piece. Top hitter for night was Sarah Baumgartner with 9 hits and 2 kills. Katie Tadlock had 6 hits. Malorie Lee and Raegan Meek had 5 hits a piece and 1 kill a piece. Paige Stephens had 5 hits. Brianna Turney had 4 hits and 1 kill. Chelsey Dungan and Tiffany Boston finished up the hitting with 3 hits a piece. Deepwater Junior HighVolleyballFairmont 2, 8th A 1 Oct. 9 at Deepwater Jr. HighScore/Results: 20-25, 25-21, 21-25Awesome team effort! Way to fight back after being down 0-12 in the first game.
