Volunteers sought to help create Butterfly Garden
The city’s parks and recreation department is looking for volunteers to help create a butterfly garden at Buffalo Run Park, the city’s newest nature park.
Nature lovers of all ages are invited to volunteer on Nov. 7 and 8 to help create the garden, plant trees and participate in a prairie seed toss at the park, located at 1122 Buffalo Run Blvd.
Local nature experts will share their knowledge and lead participants in hands-on activities from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
" This garden kicks off the first phase of a City program to restore native forest and prairie in Buffalo Run ark.
The butterfly/sensory garden consists primarily of native plants and shrubs, which are known to attract butterflies and other beneficial wildlife," said Missouri City Urban Forester Paul Wierzbicki.
"The garden is also part of the recently installed playground which will allow children and parents a unique opportunity to experience nature while enjoying the park."
The butterfly garden, designed with the help of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, is sponsored by the Native Plant Society of Houston and Lakeview Business Park.
Nature lovers who would like to volunteer or make a donation are asked to call 281-403-8645.
