Escorts setdance clinic

The DPHS Escorts are hosting its annual Football Junior Dance Clinic on Saturday, Oct. 18, from 8 to noon for all ages kindergarten through sixth grade at the South Campus Gym (Enter at the Tennis Courts).

Registration is $45 at the door the day of the clinic at 7:30 a.m.

Dancers should arrive in danceable clothing and tennis or jazz shoes. All of the Escorts have been provided with entry forms if you need one and would like to register early.

There will also be a barbecue sandwich fundraiser by the tennis courts as well that day. The Escorts are pre-selling tickets for $6 or you can purchase your sandwich, chips and drink from the fathers that day.

Sarah’s House has needs

Until further notice, Sarah’s House, a shelter for homeless women and children, at 2210 Wichita (between Pasadena Boulevard and Cherrybrook), will not accept ladies clothing.

At the present time, they are in great need of all types of cleaning supplies and baby clothes.

If you can help with laundry detergent, bleach, dishwashing liquid, toilet cleaners, etc., contact the facility at 713-475-1480.

College to host blood drive

A blood drive sponsored by the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center will be held at San Jacinto College North on Tuesday, Oct. 21, from 1:30 to 6 p.m. The blood drive will be held in the Monument Room of the Slovacek Student Center, located on the campus at 5800 Uvalde Road in the North Channel area.

Any donor who makes an appointment for a double red cell donation will receive a $20 Target gift card. Donors must be at least 17 years of age, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be in good general health. Individuals who are 16 years old, at least 122 pounds, in good general health and have their parents’ consent may also donate.

Christmas Boat Lane Parade

Although Hurricane Ike relocated many boats throughout the Bay Area, Texas’ 47th Annual Christmas Boat Lane Parade will stay on schedule this year.

Bright lights and boats of all kinds will meet Dec. 13 at 6 p.m. for Texas’ 47 th Annual Christmas Boat Lane Parade on Clear Lake, hosted by the Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce. The parade will line up at the South Shore Harbour Marina in League City and in the Nassau Bay Lagoon.

These beautifully decorated sail and power boats will dazzle and entertain thousands of

spectators with their brightly colored lights, music and designs. Some boats will be decorated traditionally and others will look very unique.

The parade starts at 6 p.m. with the City of Nassau Bay’s fireworks display. The boats travel past spectators in League City, Clear Lake Shores, Nassau Bay, Seabrook, the Kemah Boardwalk, out into Galveston Bay and return.

Gadabouts open trip to public

The Gadabouts will be going to the Smoky Mountains on Sunday, Nov. 9, and return Saturday, Nov. 15.

This trip is not limited to seniors; all adults are welcome. They will depart by charter bus from the First United Methodist Church for a “Smoky Mountain Show Trip” for seven days and six nights. The cost is $599, which includes six nights lodging (four consecutive nights in the Smokies); six breakfasts and four dinners.

The group will enjoy a guided tour of the Smoky Mountains, visit Dollywood and attend four evening shows, attend the “Patty Waszak Morning Show” and have free time in historic Gatlinburg. This will be a great time to begin Christmas shopping.

Legion holding jam sessions

South Houston Post 490, The American Legion, will be holding jam sessions every Friday evening in the Post clubroom.

The entertainment manager is asking all musicians (members and non-members) to come by for a night of fun and entertainment.

All members and guests are invited. The jam sessions start at 6 p.m. For more information call Brodie at 713-542-2632.

American Legion Post 490 is across the street from Ellington Joint Reserve Base (JBR) where it is now the largest American Legion Post in the Houston area and the second largest post in Texas.

Post 490 serves active duty, National Guard and Reserve forces and all veterans in the Southeast Houston, South Houston, Ellington JRB, the South Belt, Pasadena and the Clear Lake area.
