Pink Ladies Golf Tournament to Benefit American Cancer Society

Updated: 10.10.08
The American Cancer Society is teeing off for its 6th annual Pink Ladies Golf Tournament event on Oct. 27 at Sugar Creek Country Club.

The nine-hole benefit golf tournament, sponsored by Sterling McCall Lexus, is a perfect way for beginning to seasoned golfers, or those who have never picked up a golf club, to have fun and help raise funds for breast cancer awareness. Event co-chairs Lynn Halford and Alina Gonzalez are looking forward to another fun and successful event.

“We are so grateful and fortunate to have Sterling McCall Lexus as our event sponsor once again,” said Gonzalez.

“Their generosity and support for the cause and the tournament has been tremendous.”

The tournament has garnered a reputation for offering lots of “Pink” fun and surprises on the golf course. Participants don pink boas with pink outfits and accessories and hit the greens in decorated golf carts.

Each year, ladies of all golfing abilities come together to support a good cause.

"The reason this tournament is so different is there is no pressure,” said Halford.

Golfers will receive a box lunch and be allowed to buy mulligans. The event will feature a silent auction with funds raised dedicated to cancer research.

“The Pink Ladies Golf Tournament heightens breast health awareness in the Fort Bend community. Every dollar raised through the Pink Ladies Golf Tournament helps further our mission of eliminating cancer as a major health problem by saving lives and diminishing suffering as a whole through our re search, education, advocacy and direct services to those diagnosed with cancer,” said Meredith Phillips, distinguished giving manager of the American Cancer Society.

“With your money we are helping to save lives in the Fort Bend area.”

The Pink Ladies Golf Tournament Committee includes Nancy Turner, Susan Ryan, Gail Culberson, Jean Goff, Peggy Jackson, Ann Bjorngjeld, Carmen Kennedy, Rande Wagner, Julie Mueller, Barbara Montgomery, Peggy Stirman, Elizabeth Howell, Terry McCutcheon, Karen Awalt, Barbara Rozell and Karen Warner.

Committee members are currently securing sponsorships and selling raffle tickets for a $500 gift certificate to an Albert Luiz Salon and Spa.
