San Jac’s SBDC schedules October workshops

The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at San Jacinto College is offering training workshops for small business owners and managers during the month of October.

“First Step: A Business Startup” is scheduled for Oct. 9 and 16 from 6 to 9:30 p.m., at the Pearland San Jacinto College SBDC located at 2006 E. Broadway in Pearland. The $40 two-night workshop is designed to help participants learn how to define business ideas, determine market potential and how to conduct a feasibility study.

“Starting a Business” is scheduled for Oct. 23 from 6 to 9 p.m., at the San Jacinto College North Campus SBDC, 5800 Uvalde Road. Participants in the $15 workshop will learn about considering personal skills and experience, marketing potential of business ideas, general rules for operating a small business and sources of funding.

“How to Get a Business Loan” is scheduled Oct. 23 from 6 to 9 p.m., at the San Jacinto College Central SBDC, 8060 Spencer Highway in Pasadena. During the $25 workshop, participants will learn the fundamentals of creating a proposal and the necessary paperwork for securing business loans.“Small Business Tax Workshop” Oct. 30, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Central Campus SBDC is designed by the IRS. The $15 workshop helps participants figure out what business forms to use and how to fill them out. The program also teaches about recent changes in tax laws that may affect their businesses.The SBDC at San Jacinto College provides free counseling and low-cost workshops to help small business owners start and grow their companies. Working with existing as well as start-up firms, SBDC seeks to increase profits, reduce failures and create jobs in the local community to contribute to economic development.SBDC consultants can help business owners apply for business loans, create written business plans, devise marketing strategies, develop operating budgets and more.
