Northeast Hospital Foundation announces new luncheon
By RYAN HICKMAN
Joyce White, of Kingwood, knew she was going to be interested in the Northeast Hospital Foundation’s new “In the Pink of Health” luncheon, which provides funds to Memorial Hermann Northeast’s Cancer Center, because they would probably be mentioning Project Mammogram.
But White, the project director for Project Mammogram, didn’t know that not only would her group be recognized but she, herself, was going to be the honoree for the first ever luncheon Oct. 17.
“It’s really very, very nice,” White said last Friday at an event announcing the luncheon, “and certainly a surprise.”
White is a registered nurse and started up Project Mammogram with financial assistance from the Kingwood Women’s Club to help women who might not be able to afford it get mammograms and breast cancer resources.
“I want you to know Joyce that there was no doubt from the very beginning that the foundation board knew we wanted you to be our honoree,” Northeast Hospital Foundation President Norman Funderburk said at the event.
Northeast Hospital Foundation decided to go with a luncheon this year its big fundraiser instead of the annual gala, which honored local people who give back to the community in the same spirit as the board as well as provide entertainment like The Temptations last year.
The luncheon will follow the same idea except there will be a guest speaker instead of musical or comedy entertainment.
Three-time Emmy nominee and Golden Globe-winning actress Ann Jillian will be this year’s guest speaker at the Houston Airport Marriott Hotel.
