Police report

Due to the situations that occurred this month we were unable to process the crime report for the past month until now. Here is the Crime Report for Sept. 1-21 as compiled from Deer Park Police Department reports:

On Sept. 1 about 1:47 a.m. a Deer Park police officer observed a suspicious vehicle allegedly driving on the wrong side of the street near the 4700 block of Glenwood. The officer executed the routine traffic stop and attempted to make contact with the driver, 30-year-old Manuel Infante Jr. of Pasadena. Upon questioning Infante, the officer suspected him to be concealing something within the vehicle and requested consent to search the vehicle. The sweep of the contents of the vehicle allegedly yielded what he officer believed to be an illegal substance. Infante was subsequently taken into custody for processing through the city of Deer Park on one count of possession of a controlled substance.

On Sept. 2 about 12:59 a.m. a Deer Park officer noticed a brand new vehicle traveling on Underwood which allegedly had the dates and information on the temporary license plates incorrect. The officer executed a routine traffic stop and made contact with the driver of the new vehicle, 24-year-old Lynette Martinez of the La Porte/Deer Park area. Upon questioning Martinez, the officer allegedly suspected here to be under the influence and asked her out of the vehicle for further questioning and tests. Officers would determine Martinez to be above the legal limit and subsequently took her into custody for processing through the city of Deer Park on one count of driving while intoxicated and one count of displaying a fictitious license plate.

On Sept. 2 about 11:42 p.m. a Deer Park police officer clocked a vehicle at an alleged 82 mph in a 40 mph zone which an immediate chase ensued after the subject saw the flashing lights of the squad car in his review mirror. The subject took the police officer on a high speed chase through red lights while swerving all over the road and at that time an HPD unit attempted to box the vehicle in which the suspect allegedly struck the police cruiser in desperate attempt to avoid incarceration. Eventually the driver would have no more outs as spikes strips where used to take out three of four tires disabling the vehicle. As the vehicle came to a stop, officers from several jurisdictions converged on the driver, 35-year-old Anrique F. Torres of Pasadena, and took him into custody for processing on several charges: evading arrest w/ vehicle, aggravated assault on a peace officer, and driving while intoxicated.

On Sept. 5 about 12:19 a.m. a Deer Park police officer observed a vehicle allegedly execute an improper lane change near the 4800 block of Red Bluff and performed a routine traffic stop. The officer made contact with the driver, 53-year-old Vicki Thiel Myner of Deer Park, and upon questioning her suspected her to be under the influence. Several tests would allegedly confirm the officer’s suspicions and Myner was subsequently taken into custody for processing through the city of Deer Park on one count of driving while intoxicated.

On Sept. 5 about 1:56 a.m. the Deer Park Police Department received a call regarding an alleged intoxicated male attempting to pull into the Jack in the Box driver through, located near the 8th block of Center Street, the wrong way causing a major disturbance. When officers arrived on the scene they made contact with the driver of the vehicle, 55-year-old Gary Paul Gray of Deer Park, and asked him to exit the vehicle for questioning and testing. The officers would determine that Gray was under the influence and above the legal limit. Gray was subsequently taken into custody for processing through the city of Deer Park on one count of driving while intoxicated.

On Sept. 8 about 12:19 a.m. a Deer Park police officer allegedly witnessed a vehicle run through a red light nearly side swiping a vehicle in the process. The officer immediately executed a stop near the 600 block of East San Augustine Boulevard where he made contact with the driver 54-year-old Michael Melchor of Deer Park. Upon questioning Melchor regarding the red light he suspected Melchor to be under the influence and above the legal limit while operating a motor vehicle. The officer ordered Melchor from his vehicle for tests and further questioning which allegedly confirmed the officer’s suspicions. Melchor was taking into custody for processing through the city of Deer Park on one count of driving while intoxicated.

On Sept. 9 about 12:30 a.m. a Deer Park police officer executed a stop on a vehicle near the 5100 block of Red Bluff after witnessing the vehicle making several incorrect signal turns and allegedly swerving on the road. The officers approached the vehicle and made contact with the driver 37-year-old Wendy Richardson of the Deer Park/La Porte area. While questioning Richardson officer were given consent to search the contents of the vehicle which allegedly yielded prescription medication which Richardson allegedly could not account for. Richardson was subsequently taken into custody for processing through the city of Deer Park on one count of possession of a dangerous drug.

On Sept. 10 about 2:51 a.m. a Deer Park police officer executed a stop on a vehicle near the 1200 block of Brook Hollow for a speeding violation. When the officer made contact with the driver, 27-year-old John M. Pitman of Deer Park, he became suspicious of his behavior and requested permission to search the vehicle which at that time Pitman allegedly consented. A subsequent search of the vehicle and the person of Pitman allegedly yielded what the officer believed to be an illegal substance. Pitman was taken into custody for processing through the city of Deer Park on one count of possession of a controlled substance.

On Sept. 14 about 12:44 a.m. a DPPD officer noticed a suspicious vehicle parked near the 500 block of North Park Town looking to be involved in illegal activity. The officer moved in to investigate the situation and at the time, according the officer’s report, the vehicle inched away from the squad car. The officer used his spot light, and then his flashers and siren to stop the vehicle as the vehicle allegedly slowly attempted to pull off. After getting the vehicle to stop, the officer made contact with the occupants, 22-year-old Clinton Holstien of Deer Park and 25-year-old Kenneth R. King, and question them regarding the situation. King, the driver was found to be intoxicated and he was immediately taken into on one count of driving while intoxicated and one count of evading arrest. The other subject, Holstien, was taken into custody for processing through the city of Deer Park on one count of public intoxication and one count of evading arrest as well.

On Sept. 16 about 12:30 a.m. a Deer Park police officer executed a traffic stop on a vehicle for suspicion of illegal activity near the 7200 block of Spencer. As the officer approached the vehicle he allegedly noticed suspicious motions inside the vehicle and questioned the occupant regarding his suspicious behavior. At that time, according the report, 18-year-old Luis A. Lopez began to vomit. The officer noticed a clear plastic bag containing what the officer believed to be marijuana. Lopez was subsequently taken into custody for processing through the city of Deer Park on one count of possession of marijuana.

On Sept. 28 about 7:59 p.m. a Deer Park police officer observed a vehicle allegedly traveling recklessly down McDermott Street in Deer Park. After allegedly witnessing the vehicle barreling down the road nearly missing a group of children, the officer executed a stop near the 400 block of McDermott where he made contact with the driver, 44-year-old Michael Lawler of Deer Park. After questioning Lawler the officer suspected him to be under the influence and above the legal limit. Further questioning would confirm the officer’s suspicions and Lawler was taken into custody for processing through the city of Deer Park on one count of driving while intoxicated.

On Sept. 28 about 9:54 p.m. the Deer Park Police Department had a location blocked off near the 1000 block of Center as a result of the situation left after the storm. One motorist allegedly disregarded and paid absolutely no heed to the caution area and entered the restricted area. He was immediately stopped and questioned. Officers suspected him to be under the influence at the time and asked the driver of the vehicle, 58-year-old Benjamin J. Oren of Deer Park, to perform several field sobriety tests which Oren refused. Oren was subsequently taken into custody for processing through the city of Deer Park on the charge of driving while intoxicated.

On Sept. 28 about 9:14 p.m. a Deer Park police officer was directing traffic at a busy intersection near the 1600 block of West San Augustine when a vehicle allegedly barreled through the intersection making vehicles come to a screeching halt and nearly missing the officer. After nearly being ran over, the officer jumped in his cruiser immediately giving chase to what he believed was an intoxicated driver. The officer executed a stop shortly down the road and made contact with the driver, 56-year-old Gary A. Groda of Deer Park, who allegedly had slurred speech and showed signs of intoxication. The officer performed several tests on Groda which allegedly confirm the officer’s initial suspicions of possible DWI. Groda was taken into custody for processing through the city of Deer Park on one count of driving while intoxicated.
