Bus buddy wins football season tickets

Eric Hudson, a volunteer for Wilson Elementary School, won a pair of CFISD varsity football season tickets in a drawing for participants in the CFISD Bus Buddies initiative.

Bus buddies who volunteered during all three days of the initiative, Aug 25-27, were entered into the drawing.

Student chosen for youth leadership forum


Cypress Creek High School senior Abby Estrada has been selected to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum on National Security in Washington, D.C.

Estrada has served as a line member and chaplain of the Cypress Creek Silverado drill team, is currently serving as parliamentarian of the Cypress Creek student council and is a member of the Good Sportsmanship League.

Texans player visits Watkins MS

Houston Texans offensive tackle Eric Winston visited Watkins Middle School Tuesday as part of “Take a Texan to School Day.”

Watkins student William Peterson applied for his sixth-grade class to win a visit from a Texan by writing an essay to the team.

Post teachers honored by Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club

Two Post Elementary School teachers were recognized by the Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club Foundation during its annual Teacher of the Year program for making a positive difference in the lives of young people.

Teachers Martha Munos and Anne DonLevy were both recognized with $1,000 checks made out to Post during a presentation at the school Tuesday.

District to host UIL Region Marching Contest

CFISD will host the annual UIL Region 27 Marching Contest Saturday, Oct. 18 at the Berry Center.

The event is coordinated by band director Michael Vasquez of Cypress Woods High School and will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission for the general public is $3, and free for children under 12 and seniors 60 years and older.

Performance time schedule for CFISD schools participating in the event are: Cy Springs at 1:15 p.m., Langham Creek at 1:30 p.m., Cy Ridge at 1:45 p.m., Jersey Village at 2:15 p.m., Cy Creek at 2:30 p.m., Cy-Fair at 3:45 p.m., Cy Falls at 4 p.m. and Cy Woods at 4:15 p.m.

The Berry Center will also play host to the UIL Area E Marching Contest on Oct. 25 with times to be announced.

District News 2008-09 cast and crew selected

CFISD announced the 2008-2009 cast and crew for the CFTV Channel 16 show District News. Twenty-three students from 10 high schools were selected to serve as anchors and reporters.

District News broadcasts will air weekly, and each broadcast will feature a different high school’s students coordinating the show.

The following CFISD students were auditioned and selected: Lindsey Caldwell, senior anchor; Diana Wu, senior anchor and Charles Mbaruguru, senior reporter/alternate anchor (Cy-Fair); Shannon Saganti, senior anchor; Jessica Burleson, senior anchor and Daniel Warwick, freshman reporter/alternate anchor (Cy Creek); Chelsea Ruffino, senior anchor; Tanita Wiley, senior anchor and Kendall Popelsky, senior reporter/alternate anchor (Cy Falls); Brenda Deluna, freshman anchor (Cy Lakes); Vanessa Hernandez, junior anchor; Tyler Tweedel, freshman anchor and Brittani Pereyra, freshman reporter/alternate anchor (Cy Ridge); Jeremiah James, freshman anchor; Manuel DaSilva, sophomore anchor and Rachel Burns, freshman reporter/alternate anchor (Cy Ranch); Halie Davis, junior anchor (Cy Springs); Hannah Mackenzie, junior anchor (Cy Woods); Victor Lopez, senior anchor; Thilye Rinke, junior anchor and Jordan O’Neal, senior reporter/alternate anchor (Jersey Village); Melaina Jourdan, freshman anchor and Kenny Sheedlo, junior anchor (Langham Creek).
