Walk a Mile: As part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Verizon Wireless will sponsor the Montgomery County Women’s Center second annual “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Market Street, located at 9595 Six Pines Drive in the Woodlands.

The purpose of the one-mile route is to create awareness of domestic violence, as well as local resources available to those affected by the issue. The community is invited to join the walk and men are asked to wear women's high heels.

Individuals can register either by bringing $10 for the walk or by donating a cell phone to Verizon Wireless’s HopeLine Program, which provides support to local organizations and victims of domestic violence.

Flu shots: Free flu shots are available from 9-11 a.m., or supplies run out, today at a drive-through flu shot clinic at Lone Star College-Montgomery. Only 300 shots will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.


LSC-Montgomery will team up with The University of Texas Medical Branch’s Montgomery County Health Department to provide the free shots.

Senior flu shots: The Friendship Center will offer senior adults an opportunity to obtain flu shots at two locations in the county. The shots will be offered at the Conroe Activity Center, 1202 Callahan, from 9-11 a.m. on Oct. 20 and in the west Montgomery County area from 12:30-2 p.m. Oct. 23 at The Friendship Center’s location in the CDBG Community Center on Friendship Lane in Magnolia.

Flu shots are free this year to seniors age 55 and over, courtesy of the Christus Foundation for Healthcare.

In addition to seniors served by The Friendship Center, any local resident age 55 or over may receive a shot free of charge.

Toy Run auction: The Cut and Shoot Harley Owners Group’s sixth annual charity Toy Run auction will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Johnny B. Dalton’s, located at 2017 N. Frazier, Suite D-3, in Conroe.

All proceeds benefit Cut N Shoot Charities Inc., which supports the Montgomery County Women’s Shelter, the Montgomery County Food Bank, The Friendship Center, CASA and other Montgomery County assistance programs.

The silent auction begins at 5 p.m. and the live auction begins at 7 p.m. Auction items available include Harley-Davidson merchandise, home decor, apparel, sports memorabilia, vacation rentals and more.

Food and door prizes also will be available.
