Indians allow Liberty to score, but still undefeated in district
By WAYNE RHYMES
The Cleveland Indians continue to soar over all their competition in football. They played last Friday against the Liberty Panthers at home and finally someone scored on their ferocious defense.
“Our defense is tough, nothing special. They run to the football and they are aggressive and we hit hard. We do not run around blocks; we run through them,” said Head Coach Ricky Tullos.
Although the score was 46-7 and the Indians continued to dominate and are still undefeated, the question is how could any team score against them?
“They scored late in the fourth quarter and honestly, no one has still scored on our first team yet,” Coach Tullos said.
The Indians have a lot of weapons offensively and defensively because most players play both sides of the field, but the success in winning and dominating is from their defense.
“Our defense ignites our offense as my defensive players play offense as well. The Indian defense held the Liberty Panthers to 74 total yards, only getting five first downs. Friday’s win ended another successful week in dominating opponents and giving them no confidence to be able to move the ball.
The Indians offensively still racked up the yards by achieving 410 total yards with 22 first downs. Jamal Gibson had 85 yards and Benny Wright had 75 yards with two touchdowns. Marcus Mallett and Steven Robertson found the familiar touchdown territory one time each. The consistent Chazz Carrington threw a touchdown pass and ran a touchdown too. He threw two completions for 47 yards. His touchdown pass was caught by Tre Richardson.
The Indians will play Friday, trying to stay undefeated, against Huffman.
“It will be a good game as Huffman has a great coach,” Tullos said.
But the expectation will still remain the same for the Indians -- the defense will be expected to set the tone of the game and the offense will rack up numbers on the scoreboard.
